Players from Maghery and Annaghmore helped Armagh register a first senior win of 2016 on Sunday with success over Monaghan in the Dr McKenna Cup.

The cup tie at Clones provided Armagh with victory on a slender 0-16 to 2-9 scoreline, with Monaghan holding a five-point lead before the Orchard County players’ fightback.

Maghery’s Stefan Forker and Aidan Forker started the second-round match - with the former posting a point.

Matthew McNeice from Annaghmore lined out between the posts and his club colleague, Oisin MacIomhair, joined play from the sidelines.

McNeice produced a key save before the break to frustrate Monaghan’s Fergal McGeough.

Monaghan were clear by 1-6 to 0-7 at the interval then in front on a tally of 2-7 to 0-8.

Armagh’s late rally, however, helped to turn the tables as Stefan Campbell walked off with the ‘man-of-the-match’ honour.

Armagh host Ulster University at The Athletic Grounds on Wednesday from 8 o’clock in the final Section C fixture.
