Armagh before the ladies' Inter-Zone Championship final against Donegal.

Armagh’s Inter-Zone Championship hopes suffered defeat at the final hurdle on Saturday with a 61-46 reverse by Donegal.

The ladies made the trip to Killyclougher aiming to achieve both modern success and revenge for past disappointment.

The same sides met in the 2012 showpiece, with success for Donegal.

Armagh entered last weekend’s meeting with a boost in confidence thanks to the semi-final defeat of defending champions North West. However, Donegal once again held the upper hand at the close of play.

“Donegal were by far the better side, to be honest,” said Jal Richardson, the Armagh Zone convenor. “We have now finished as runners-up on something like four of the past six seasons.

“When you reach the final then defeat is hard to swallow but we must regroup and look to the future.

“The squad changed at the start of this season so will now push on together.”

The rink scores were: I.Douglas 6 R.Crawford 13; E.Smyth 6 M.Montgomery 8; R.Cassells 8 A.Gilfillan 9; P.Beattie 11 R.McDonnell 9; L.Douglas 10 V.Patterson 11; C.Beattie 5 E.Doherty 11.
