Portadown men’s firsts scored four goals to pick up the points needed to help protect second on Saturday in the Senior One standings.

The well-earned win away to North Down arrived despite facing a 3-1 deficit at one stage.

A strong start by a North Down side aiming to close the gap in the standings left Portadown on the backfoot and down by two goals.

However, Portadown settled and got off the mark thanks to a Jamie Curran strike.

Portadown enjoyed the upper hand but conceded a third following a swift North Down break and goal off the resultant short corner.

The visitors remained composed and continued to create chances before Adam Stevenson’s drag flick closed the margin to 3-2 at the break.

Portadown’s attacking drive in the second half led to a string of scoring opportunities but limited finishing.

However, Curran linked up with Stephen Johnston to find Zach McClelland and his superb pass into the circle was converted by a diving Mackenzie Bennett.

The away side increased the pressure over the closing stages and produced a winning goal thanks to Stuart Kirkland’s clever control and cool finish.

Jamie Knipe proved alert between the posts late on to keep the away side ahead by 4-3 following an impressive road trip.

Portadown men’s thirds enjoyed a double-figure victory at Edenvilla Park on Saturday against North Down fifths.

Andrew Connolly scored five goals in the 12-1 win - with two apiece by Adam Gordon and David Winter.

Jeremy Rea, Luke Bell and Peter Baxter were the other scorers.
