Tandragee’s William Small has added another special moment to his season of highlights with success at the Munster Boys’ Amateur Open Championship.

A 70 on the final round left Small on 214 strokes overall following three rounds of the Gleeson Sports Scene-sponsored competition.

Small - the current junior captain at Tandragee - posted birdies on the fourth, fifth, sixth and 12th holes.

Pars across the final three holes left Small home by a five-stroke margin of victory over Royal Portrush’s Peter Kerr.

“I had been selected for the Ulster Boys before Mallow so basically went into the Munster championship aiming to justify that call-up,” said Small. “Obviously I am delighted to have won it and it is nice to have that trophy now under my belt.

“I just went in and played my normal game and it has been a great year so far, with the Inter-Provincial Championships still to come.

“I finished third in the Ulster Boys and then it is the Leinster Boys after the inter-pros.

“I joined Tandragee about four years ago or so and only really started the boys’ events last season.

“I got home from Mallow quite late at night but was up early working on the family farm the next day.”
