Blakely bags top spot in ’Blacker stableford event

David Blakely claimed top spot at Carrickblacker on 40 points to secure success in the Saturday Stableford.

Dan McKimm proved the pick of the players on 38 points to edge home over Matthew Lappin and Bertie Speers across the back nine.

Stephen McChesney was next in line on 37 - a score Brian Vallely managed to match for sixth.

Stephen Poole proved the pick of the gross scorers on 75.

In the Wednesday Sweep - sponsored by WM Nixon Financial Services - John Gilliland collected the main prize with 33 points.

The section winners were as follows: 0-10 - Derek McCoy 28; 11-14 - Don Carville 30; 15-18 - Francis McKee 32; 19-plus - Shane McDonald 31.

The July Medal 18-hole stroke competition finished with James Brown at the head of the pack on 67.

Dougie Smith wrapped up second on 68 thanks to his better back-nine score.

Joseph Stevenson was the leading juvenile on 68 overall, with Liam Tennyson fourth thanks to the same score.

Keith Walker won the gross on 72.
