Carrickblacker delight for the Stevensons

The annual Parent and Child competition took place at Carrickblacker on Friday with club professional Paul Stevenson and son Harry winning the trophy.

This is the second the father and son duo have won the competition, this time with a score of 28 points for the 14 hole Greensomes event.

Juvenile captain Dan McKimm and his father Dick finished in second place on 25 points.

Other scores: 3rd Andy &and Jamie Donaldson 24 points; 4th Ryan and Alfie McFarland; Father & Son (over 18) category Don and Chris Carville 20 points; Father & Son (over 18) category second David & Adam McMaster 18 points; Grandfather & Grandson Ken and Joseph Stevenson 31 points; Adopted category Jimmy Sloan and Chris Hamilton 37 points.

At the evening prize presentation Vice Captain Bryan Friar thanked David Alexander of Alexander Bain and Murray for their ongoing support of this popular event.

Meanwhile, Club President Michael Connolly is looking forward his President’s Day this Saturday, August 13th, with the first players teeing off at 7 am in the 18 hole Stableford event.

The winner will collect the President’s Prize and the W R Millsopp Trophy at the evening prize presentation scheduled for 9.30 pm

All members and their partners are warmly invited to attend the prize presentation and the evening entertainment with music and dancing until late.

Colin McDonald rolled back the years to top the leaderboard in the Open Stableford event at Carrickblacker last Saturday, August 6th.

With over 200 players competing Colin, who has played very little competitive golf over the last few years, shot 41 points to secure a one shot victory over Johnny Grant

Colin produced four birdies on his scorecard - he was out in one under par 34 and home in four over par 39 for a round of 73 off his eight handicap. Sam Rutherford player Johnny Grant was first out on Saturday and played solid golf for a round of 75 and 40 points of his nine handicap for second place.

Third was Keith Jackson (39 pts), fourth Brian Galbraith (39 pts), fifth Vincent O’Brien (39 pts), sixth Zach McClelland (38 pts).

The Gross prize was won by Francis Tallon from Lurgan GC with 74.

It was week 16 of the Wednesday Sweep.Kevin Judge as the sponsor with Zach McClelland winning on 35 points.

Other scores: 0-10 section Stevie Grant 31 pts; 11-14 section Michael Collett 33 pts; 15-18 section Victor Trueman 28 pts; 19+ section P Farrell 35 pts.

The Monday Seniors on 1st August was a 14 hole Stableford competition.

The winner wasMalcolm Bellwith 36 points.

In the Low Section Don Blackwon with 35 points, High section winner was Michael Wilson 34 points

Veterans prize was won by Joe Sandford with 30 points.

The August Medal held on Thursday 4 August was an 18 hole stroke event.

The Winner was Craig Black 68 net, second was Eric McAfee 69 net and Johnny Grant was third 70 net. Gross winner was Gordon Willis 78.

Meanwhile Portadown Ladies played for Mr President, Michael Connelly’s Prize.

June Garvin was was first place with 37 points to take the top honours.

Second place went to Mrs Jean Barr on 33 points, in third place Mrs Ginga Singh also on 33 points. In fourth place was Mrs Doreen Johnston with 32 points. The CSS was 73.
