Carrickblacker pairs set to face off in weekend Clubworld final

Play in the Clubworld Travel New Year Tournament has reached the final stage - with Tom McFarland and John Cassidy to face Chris Sloan and Melvin Moorehead tomorrow (Saturday) from 1 o’clock.

McFarland and Cassidy edged home in the semi-final on the first extra hole against Andrew Poole and Ken Courtney, with a birdie three at the Carrickblacker tie hole.

Sloan and Moorehead finished in front of Michael Heaney and Nigel Morton during the second last-four clash.

The prize presentation is planned for 6 o’clock tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Brian Harvey, playing off a nine handicap, was first with 43 points thanks to a six-hole countback in the Clubworld 18-hole Stableford. Brian Patterson was second on 43 points, with Victor Kelly next in line and both Harry Proctor and Graham Patterson on 41 apiece as Keith Walker won the gross.

John Moylan finished first in the 14-hole Thursday Stableford on 33 points over Derek McCoy and Don Black.

Ronnie Hynds won the Monday Seniors on 36 points - with Eric McAfee (low section), George Doherty (high section) and Dennis McNally (veterans) also in the prizes.

Karen Shaw, Wendy Beale and Laura McAdam won the ladies’ Three-Ball Scramble on nett 53. Claire Patton, Hilary Lynas and Honor Reid finished as runners-up with nett 54.

The T and E Kerr Trophy - the ladies’ 18-hole competition - will feature play each Tuesday, with a draw sheet now posted. The nine-hole competition will run at the same time, with players asked to arrange a partner.

The Summer Ringer is also scheduled to start, with ladies requested to play out each hole.

Sheets for the Shillington and Challenge cups have been posted.

On Tuesday, April 21, Marigold Glove Day will take place and ladies are reminded to come along and help polish the silverware before or after play.

There is a Mixed Gender Open planned for Easter Monday.
