Champion Bell home at the head of hot rods final field around Tullyroan Oval

Glenn Bell enjoyed a successful defence of his National Hot Rods Leslie Dallas Memorial Trophy against a tough Tullyroan Oval field.

The Portadown ace proved the pick of the entry list that featured domestic drivers alongside visitors from around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Bell wrapped up the two heat races in, respectively, third and first to help seal pole position for the main event.

Bell held control early on in the final and managed to maintain that position until the finish line.

Steven Haugh from Portadown entered the ProStocks date as defending British champion following success at Aghadowey.

Haugh finished the heats with second as his highlight before third overall in the Irish Masters, followed by Portadown’s Stefan McClelland.

Wayne Woolsey from Portadown was third in the first Two-Litre Hot Rods Tullyroan Challenge Cup heat.

Vince Litter - another driver from the area - worked hard across the Lightning Rods Tullyroan Challenge Cup heat stages.

In the final, two competitors with connections to the region, Nigel Jackson and Jordan Rochford, came home in podium positions behind the winner.

Racing will run at Tullyroan Oval on Saturday, September 19 from 6.30.

TURKINGTON

Colin Turkington wrapped up an appearance at Rockingham in the British Touring Car Championship with third place across the final race.

The defending British champions holds fourth on the main leaderboard following seventh, eighth and third around Rockingham’s three-race meeting.

NEILL

Portadown’s Marshall Neill returned from Oulton Park having posted a double podium placing in round nine of the Motorpoint British Supersport Evo Championship.

Consistent form kept Neill inside the top-three positions across practice and qualifying.

A corner pass on the final bend of the sprint race resulted in Neill sealing second, on the back wheel of the leader.

The main event opened with Neill struggling but he recovered across the second half to seal third.

Neill holds second in the Evo leaderboard ahead of a visit to Assen.

“I’m really happy to make it to the podium in both races,” said Neill last weekend. “I’m a little disappointed with my Sunday race as I think I was capable of the win or, at the very least, second.

“However, I struggled to find my pace early in the race.

“I have never been to Assen before so am looking forward to the challenge.

“Thanks to my personal sponsors and team sponsors.”

CREALEY

Portadown’s Ben Crealey added to his run of class prizes with success around the Event Signs Woodpecker Rally.

The 17-year-old ace entered the N3 category having enjoyed victory in July’s previous outing and won the class for two-litre production specification cars by 1 min 5 seconds.

Daniel Neroda from England served as Crealey’s co-driver and it proved a winning partnership on the first competitive appearance as a pair.

The Ludlow-based meeting featured a capacity entry list of 180 competitors across six gravel-surface stages.

Crealey managed to complete the initial stages as class leader and 70th overall but mechanical issues forced the teenager to complete the fourth on just three wheels.

Help from the Geoff Jones Motorsport Team resolved the rear-hub issue and Crealey managed to maintain his class position despite the setback.

Strong driving across the final two stages confirmed back-to-back class wins for Crealey and an overall position of 67th.

“It’s been a difficult but enjoyable rally for us,” said Crealey at the finish. “I’m really pleased to have won the class and, without the problem of the rear-wheel hub breaking, it would have been interesting to see how far up we could have finished.

“However, I must thank the Geoff Jones Motorsport Team for their efforts, as without them we could not have finished at all.”
