James Turkington increased his silverware haul to three titles in as many seasons thanks to an assured final weekend at Kirkistown.

The 21-year-old driver celebrated glory at the end of his debut Northern Ireland Saloons Championship campaign, having previously captured back-to-back Ford Fiesta honours.

Additional highlights include saloon lap records for Turkington at both Kirkistown and Bishopscourt following a championship push that produced six wins from 12 rounds.

A double-figure tally of podium appearances offers evidence of Turkington’s impressive consistency.

“I really enjoyed the season as part of a great team,” said Turkington. “Support from my parents and brothers has been crucial and I have been able to learn a lot across this season.”

Noel Robinson was unable to add a third Martin Donnelly Trophy to his roll of honour but produced a spirited drive in difficult circumstances.

The Portadown driver went off across his heat so entered the final with a testing grid position.

Robinson, who enjoyed a success Irish League football career, crossed the line in fifth having held third at one point in the Formula Ford 1600 race.
