Defending British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington put himself back in the frame for a third title in a row with a crucial win at Silverstone.

The reigning champion from Portadown enjoyed a solid scoring weekend at the home of British motorsport, netting results of fifth and eighth place before making a decisive move for the lead early in race three on his way to a fourth win of the season.

“I’m obviously delighted to take the win as it was pretty crucial to keep myself in the hunt for the championship,” said Colin. “The car was really good in that third race. We’ve struggled for balance all weekend but we managed to turn a corner for race three.

“Now there will be five drivers, all former champions, all in with a mathmatical chance of lifting the title.

“It is down to the wire and all you can do is give it your best shot.”

The Portadown racing star has kept in touch all season and has never been far from the top three positions on the championship leader board.

Silverstone was a make or break weekend for Colin’s championship bid and putting in place a firm foundation on which to prepare an attack for the final round of the championship next weekend was the target for the Team BMR driver. Having secured sixth place on the grid on race day, Colin made steady progress in both race 1 and again in 2 before clinching the win he needed.

With 67 points up for grabs next weekend at Brands Hatch it’s still all up for grabs in the race for the 2015 BTCC crown.

There was more good news for Colin this week with Portadown company FUEL, one of the UK’s most successful and experienced IT providers, extending their sponsorship with the double BTCC champion.

Paul Trouton, CEO of FUEL said, “Colin is totally focused on continual success and being the best at driving high performance racing cars and has always taken a keen interest in the success of the company and was heavily involved at the successful launch of the FUEL brand.

“Now we’re delighted to play our part in Colin’s continual success as an official sponsor.”
