Students from Portadown College’s rugby programme recently enjoyed a visit to school by a special guest.

The Guinness PRO12 trophy was delivered to the College as part of a tour backed by Specsavers Opticians.

Specsavers Portadown - based in The Meadows Shopping Centre - recently celebrated 20 years.

The trophy was on tour in advance of Ulster’s meeting last week against Cardiff Blues in The Kingspan Stadium.

Specsavers, as an official sponsor of the Guinness PRO12 match officials and referees, is also the official optician and hearing services partner of the Guinness PRO12.

“This was an exciting start to the week,” said Andrew Symington, head of PE at Portadown College. “We were delighted that the PRO12 Trophy was able to come to Portadown College and are grateful to Specsavers for making it possible.

“Portadown College has a strong rugby heritage so this was a very special occasion.

“I suspect many of our young player hope that, one day, they’ll be lifting the trophy for real!”
