College to face derby cup test

Portadown College will kick off this year’s Danske Bank Schools’ Cup campaign with a second-round derby date.

The draw this week at Kingspan Stadium provided the town players with a short trip to take on Lurgan College.

The tie must take place on Saturday, January 9.

The draw was conducted by Portadown’s Bobby Stewart in his role as IRFU (Ulster branch) president, with help from Danske Bank’s head of business acquisition, Ivan McMinn.

The full draw is as follows: round one (December 5) - Carrickfergus Grammar School v Strabane Academy; round two (January 9) - Larne Grammar School v Royal School Armagh, Lurgan College v Portadown College, Cambridge House School v Limavady Grammar School, Wellington College Belfast v Friends’ School Lisburn, Royal School Dungannon v winners of preliminary round, Banbridge Academy v Antrim Grammar School, Belfast High School v Foyle and Londonderry College.
