Craigavon Senior High School girls wrapped up a successful defence of the Northern Ireland title on Friday with victory against Ballyclare.

Captain Steph Moffitt grabbed the decisive goal in the national showpiece for high schools at Antrim Forum.

“After a nervous start the girls quickly settled and played some great attacking hockey,” said Craigavon Senior High School’s Elaine Walker. “Brooke Watson and Lucille Giffin made some great runs, ensuring the Ballyclare defence had a busy afternoon.

“We were unlucky not to score in the first half but the Ballyclare goalkeeper was outstanding and won the ‘player of the match’ award.

“However, the pressure told with 15 minutes left thanks to our captain’s goal from open play following midfield passing by Emma White and Sarah Frizzell.

“We continued to dominate and finished unfortunate not to have won by a greater margin.”

Craigavon can now prepare for finals in the McDowell Plate and Mid-Ulster Cup.

The squad was Jenna Rodgers, Alana Manderson, Kerry Donaldson, Sasha Malone, Alison Martin, Lucille Giffin, Emma White, Zara Gibson, Sarah Frizzell, Lucy Parks, Lucy Morwood, Steph Moffitt, Brooke Watson, Charissa Swaffield, Nikki Clarke.
