The Portadown driver enjoyed a podium position in race two of the British Touring Car Championship meeting - and had a helping hand from Lewis.

“His birthday was the following day and he loved joining in on the podium,” said Turkington, the defending British champion. “I get wonderful support from my whole family.

“I finished seventh in the first race, then third and fourth.

“I’m fifth overall and the aim is to continue making progress.”

Tandragee Motocross Park featured impressive racing across the Ulster Championships, with winners as follows in the North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club-promoted meeting:

PREMIER CLASS MX1: Robert Hamilton; PREMIER CLASS MX2: Glenn McCormick; SEMI-EXPERT MX1: Colin McGregor; CLUBMAN MX1: David Martin; CLUBMAN MX2: Stephen Gabbey.

Tandragee’s Matthew Sinton finished sixth on his Suzuki in the semi-expert MX1 section.

Portadown’s James Turkington recorded two third-place positions during the weekend meeting at Kirkistown.

Turkington posted impressive timings across the Saloons\GTS class in his Seat Cupra.
