Nigel Jackson is back in the Lightning Rods honours after almost a decade off the roll of honour.

The Tartaraghan-based driver managed to bridge a gap on Sunday by capturing his first European Championship crown in the class since 2006.

A late night helped Jackson and his team repair damage picked up at Aghadowey the previous day and the experienced ace claimed control to return to the winner’s podium.

Jackson’s history in the class dates back to title wins at the old Shamrock Park circuit and he relished a night back in the spotlight.

“Tullyroan is fast and tight but the car was going great from practice and it is nice to get my hands back on the trophy,” said Jackson. “The conditions suited me too as I don’t mind racing in the wet.

“We had some trouble at Aghadowey but everyone worked hard and the car was superb on Sunday.

“After coming home as runner-up last year at Tipperary it was brilliant to capture the title.

“It was a great weekend for Jimmy Patton too, as he built the engines in both my car and Adam Hylands’ car.”
