Portadown produced a superb scoring sequence of 46 shots at the loss of just one across 10 ends in Saturday’s IBA Junior Cup triumph.

The second-round win by 96-56 appeared on course for a tense afternoon as Portadown held a slender lead of just two by seven ends.

However, a flurry of form pushed Portadown into a commanding position.

Andrew Millar, Wayne Dougan, Barney McCartan and Noel Quinn put up five on the eighth end for a lead of 8-5. Lisnagarvey went on to dominate towards the 25-12 advantage.

Joel Hyde, Nixon Armstrong, Tom Murdock and Noel Orr enjoyed the upper hand from the start, with the lead of 8-1 by five ends. Lisnagarvey produced a fightback before Portadown pushed on from 11-8 with seven additional wins in the 22-10 success.

Josh Hyde, Harry Harrison, Eric McCartney and Robert Cassells required a few ends to adjust to conditions, then found form to win by 29-8 from a 7-4 deficit.

Edward Bowles, a recent addition to the Portadown roster, enjoyed a winning start to his outdoor career alongside Eddie Corkin, Bob Robinson and Errol Whitten.

Lisnagarvey were 7-6 down by nine ends but a string of 25 shots without reply moved Portadown towards a 33-13 triumph.

Portadown A had three winning rinks but suffered a six-shot defeat at Coleraine in the Senior Cup.

Congratulations go to Richard McMullan and Mark Sproule on selection for this weekend’s Inter-Association Series.
