Portadown ladies’ firsts’ Irish Hockey Trophy campaign finished at the first hurdle with defeat in Dublin.

Three Rock Rovers recorded a 3-0 win against a Portadown side with appearances in recent seasons across the quarter-finals, last-four and final.

The hosts opened the scoring against the run of play and Portadown entered half-time unable to benefit from periods of attacking pressure.

Gaby Silcock came close before the break but Portadown’s problems increased after the interval as Three Rock doubled the advantage with a slick break.

Portadown’s sole corner resulted in Silcock slotting home a drag flick to cut the gap.

However, Three Rock pushed on to add number three across the closing seconds.

Portadown face Queen’s University tomorrow (Saturday) from 2.30 at Edenvilla Park.
