Scarva’s Olivia Mehaffey has climbed the European rankings to sit second in the Junior Solheim leaderboard.

The Tandragee Golf Club player reached the semi-finals of last week’s Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship at Portstewart and that result has moved her one step closer towards Junior Solheim Cup qualification with Europe.

A ranking boost from her Portstewart performance has pushed the 17-year-old level in second alongside Sweden’s Elin Esborn and Leionie Harm from Germany.

Mehaffey will be aiming to secure a top-six spot to qualify for September’s tournament against USA in Germany.

Mehaffey, who will start a four-year scholarship at Arizona State University in 2016, lost out in the semi-finals of the British Open to Sweden’s Linnea Strum - a future team-mate in America and former Junior Solheim Cup representative.

Mehaffey’s season has already featured tournament wins in Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
