Portadown Tennis Club’s annual open day last weekend proved a big hit on and off the courts at Edenvilla Park.

A membership boost generated by the packed programme of events marked down Saturday’s showpiece as a winning performance by the club officials.

The next step, according to Portadown Tennis Club’s Lyn Jamison, is to maintain the momentum and open up the facility to as many as possible.

“We have been in operation for 12 years now at Edenvilla Park, with a natural drop in numbers over the past five or so in keeping with trends across all sports clubs,” said Jamison, the Portadown chairman. “However, events such as Saturday’s open day can really make a difference and we picked up extra members across the junior and senior sections.

“That is credit to everyone who put so much time into the weekend fun and now we want to continue to build on that success with additional events to raise awareness.”

Portadown’s Kids’ Summer Camp will run at Edenvilla Park under the guidance of coach Dan Bennett on the following dates: July 6-10, July 20-24, July 27-31, August 17-21.

Each daily session will run from 9.30-12.30 and is open to children aged four years old up to 11.

“Equipment will be provided on each five-day course, although children should bring appropriate clothing for outdoor play along with a snack and drink,” said Bennett. “The cost per camp is £50 for non-members or a discount rate of £40 for members.”
