The latest chapter in a story of club links dating back to the late 1970s was staged on Saturday at Chambers Park.

The Friendship Cup formed part of a packed weekend programme that included outings for the firsts and seconds alongside the social fixture with Portadown’s guests from France.

The partnership between Portadown and Orleans dates back over three decades and the arrival of the tourists proves a welcome addition to any club calendar.

“It was great to see the club buzzing on Saturday with so many people down to watch the rugby and enjoy everything,” said Richard Hedley, the head coach at Chambers Park. “The Orleans connection is a wonderful example of what makes sport so special and we want to encourage such spirit around the place.

“There was something for everyone on Saturday and a strong club spirit can only benefit everyone, from the firsts on down the teams.

“It was a brilliant day.”
