A score of 40 points wrapped up the Portadown prize sponsored by Charlie Mallon Butchers - but only thanks to the nine-hole countback against William Hewitt.

Geoff Allister was third on 39 as juvenile Harry Proctor, Ronnie Hynds and Nigel Semple completed the top six. The gross was won by Keith Walker.

In the May Medal, Bryan Harvey’s 63 nett secured top spot ahead of Drew Cunningham and Geoff Robinson. The gross went to Terry Sandford.

The Wednesday Sweep - sponsored by Ronnie Hynds - featured Brian Matchett at the head of the field on 34 points. The section winners were Raymond McKeag (0-10), Keith Gawley (11-14), Robert Hughes (15-18) and Tom McFarland (19-plus).

In the team events, Portadown played host to the 14-club GUI Pierce Purcell regional qualifying tournament and Billy Gillis’ panel finished second on 339 from four cards to set up a Tandragee date with County Armagh. Carrickblacker will host the meeting between Mannan Castle and Nuremore.

Tomorrow (Saturday) marks the May Open Stableford and Fred Daly Memorial qualifier sponsored by Gilford Road-based Tyremaster. The first Mixed Open Greensomes of the year is planned for Sunday, with tee times in the Pro Shop.

The ladies’ Open Challenge Cup - sponsored by McIlhatton Windows - was won by Banbridge’s Marlene Nelson on 37 points over Diane Coburn.

Malone’s H.Emerson lifted the gross and other winners were Claire Patton (section A), Sharon Horsfall (section B), M.McVeigh (section C), J.Reid (front nine) and Thelma Simpson (back nine).

Helen Spencer and Claire Patton won the Daisy Ferguson qualifying competition over June Garvin and Maud Garvin.
