Alan Simpson and his team-mates posted 286.5 points to top week nine of the Richardson’s Meats-sponsored Winter League standings at Carrickblacker.

Sammy Walker led the way on 25 to collect the ham prize in section four, with Kenny Guy securing the section three ham on the same tally and Stephen Aston a voucher winner across section two.

Keith Walker’s players came home as runners-up on 281 points, thanks to Dougie Smith’s 25.5 individual tally. That score put Smith in the prizes within section two as winner of the ham. David Love picked up the beef prize in section three on 24 points.

Stephen Grant’s squad finished third overall on 275.5.

Results across the sections were as follows: section one - Mark Jones (turkey, 25.5 points), Bryan Harvey (ham, 25), Keith Walker (beef, 22.5), Sammy Forbes (voucher, 23); section two - Kenny Courtney (turkey, 26), Dougie Smith (ham, 25.5), Gareth Robinson (beef, 24.5), Stephen Aston (voucher, 24); section three - John Cassidy (turkey, 25), Kenny Guy (ham, 25), David Love (beef, 24), Kenny Lindsay (voucher, 23.5); section four - Mark Jeffers (turkey, 25), Sammy Walker (ham, 25), Mark Taylor (beef, 25), Dessie Rainey (voucher, 24.5).

The Winter League team positions are as follows: Poole 84 points; McFarland 68; Simpson 62; Gilliland 58; Grant 58; Jones 49; Sloan 34; Cassidy 31; Smith 28; Walker 22.

Leading the chase for the Montgomery Rosebowl - the prize for the top individual at the end of the Winter League’s 10-week schedule - are Derek Jones (184 points), Jim Wright (184), Colm McKeever (184) and Kenny Guy (182).

Winter League prize night tickets are available from match-and-handicap convenor Michael Connolly.

Kenny Guy won the Monday Seniors with 26 points during the 10-hole Stableford competition.

Dougie Smith was first in the low section on 23.5, with Mark Taylor the leading player across the high section with 24.5.

Eddie Atkinson topped the veterans’ section on 22 points.

Carrickblacker will remain open for play across the festive period, with the calendar as follows:

Boxing Day - 10-hole Stableford; Saturday, December 27 - Winter League week 10 and Christmas Cup; Monday, December 29 - Bank Holiday Stableford; Thursday, January 1 - Bank Holiday Stableford.
