Two student athletes from the area featured in the spotlight at the recent launch of a national cross-country competition.

Hannah Cochrane and Josh Roney were on show at the event to highlight this season’s Flahavan’s Porridge-sponsored Athletics NI Primary Schools’ Cross-Country League.

Cochrane and Roney had support from current Northern Ireland cross-country champion Declan Reed.

“I’m thrilled to act as official ambassador,” said Reed. “It’s important to instil an active lifestyle and healthy diet for children.

“The league is the perfect way to do this.”

Around 5,200 athletes will take part across three rounds, with 126 schools represented covering the County Down, Southern Area, Causeway Cost, County Antrim, North West, Fermanagh and County Tyrone regions. Ella Haynes, Dylan Alexander, Marcus McNeill, Victoria Lightbody, Connie Crothers and Ordgan Hamilton were also on show for the Southern Area.
