Colin Turkington - a two-time British Touring Car Championship winner - has announced his move to Team BMR for 2015.

The departure of major sponsor eBay Motors from West Surrey Racing left Turkington’s future with the team in question, despite last season’s title-winning partnership.

He ended speculation this week by confirming a deal with Team BMR to race alongside Jason Plato and Aron Smith.

Turkington will race a Volkswagen Passat CC and testing was expected to start yesterday (Thursday).

“I’m back to defend my title, that’s what I am here to do,” said Turkington. “For sure I am stepping outside my comfort zone. I’ve been with WSR for all but one of my seasons in the British Touring Car Championship and had my two successes with them.

“I absolutely loved it at WSR but it just felt the time had come to bring that period to an end.

“At the same time things conspired to make it impossible for me to continue anyway after they lost their title sponsorship from eBay Motors.

“Also Kevin Berry moved across to Team BMR at the end of last season.

“So I guess that gave me extra confidence to make the switch and to believe I can do well.”
