Weekend warm-up

MOTORSPORT THIS weekend’s Nutts Corner Circuit programme will provide karters with the perfect warm-up ahead of the Irish Grand Prix event over August 25 and 26.

For some, tomorrow (Saturday) will also offer an opportunity to prepare for the British Championship round across the junior classes at the same venue on August 11 and 12.

Sam Pierce and Michael Hyde from Portadown have both enjoyed strong progress this season in the Junior Cadets.

Gilford’s Nigel Stewart will be aiming to claim top spot in the ProKarts this weekend off the back of some commanding performances.

Derek Wilson and Mark Overend - two competitors with strong connections to the town - have podium positions as the World Formula target.

In the 250cc Superkarts, Gilford’s Scott Greenaway currently sits second overall in the national section.

Another Gilford driver, Matt McGaffin, is close to a top-three position in the 125cc Superkart standings.
