Fairgreen men into last four
SNOOKER PLAY in the County Armagh Snooker League-backed Adams Cup recently reached the quarter-finals.
CASL Division Two’s Legion and Masonic A battled hard but lost out, respectively, to top-flight Green Baize players.
Masonic B finished 4-1 down against a slick Green Baize Young Lions side, with Fairgreen completing the semi-final line-up.
Green Baize A will face Green Baize in the semi-final, with the other tie a meeting between Green Baize Young Lions and Fairgreen.
ADAMS CUP (SECOND ROUND) LEGION 2 GREEN BAIZE A 3
KYLE Johnston helped Legion take control at home by beating Alan Cherry.
Johnston held a 16-point lead entering the colours before a late surge led to Cherry claiming the yellow, green, brown and blue.
However, a miss on the pink allowed Johnston to seal success by 12 points.
It was level when Stephen Black finished out in front over Ian Beatty, with each player enjoying time on top.
Strong pots on the pink and black left the Green Baize man with a win.
The hosts moved back in front thanks to Noel Elliott’s defeat of Lee Emerson, with excellent pots by the former across the colours proving decisive.
David Emerson came out on top over the Legion captain, Ian Megaw, during a gripping tussle.
Emerson potted the brown but had to escape a snooker on the blue. However, Megaw managed to sink the blue.
The frame featured another twist when Megaw failed to pot the pink and Emerson made no mistake.
Andrew Agnew, the Green Baize captain, was down by 30 points at one stage against Stephen Nesbitt.
It was 18 points entering the colours but Agnew produced a memorable 25-point clearance from the green ball to turn the tables and push Green Baize into the semi-finals.
ADAMS CUP (SECOND ROUND)
GREEN BAIZE YOUNG LIONS 4 MASONIC B 1
GREEN Baize Young Lions claimed first blood in the battle between CASL Division Two rivals for cup progress by beating David Magee.
Play proved tight across the frame and, ultimately, a black-ball battle was required to settle the match in Cully’s favour.
Ian Nicholl doubled the tally at the expense of Richard Smyton, the Masonic captain.
Safety play proved crucial before Smyton squandered an opportunity to pot the black, allowing Nicholl to seal the frame.
Gary Neill reduced the scores with victory over Ryan Hughes thanks to a strong start on the way to a 36-point win.
The fourth frame featured Gareth Allen against Masonic’s William Hewitt and a 17 break placed the former out in front.
Hewitt worked hard but struggled to find a way back into contention during the 55-point reverse.
Jason Nicholl wrapped up a 4-1 tally by beating William Murdoch in the final encounter.
