ARMAGH ladies’ Inter-Zone Championship campaign will feature a final challenge thanks to success on Saturday at home to Foyle.

The 64-49 victory in Richhill placed the Orchard County players in a third successive showpiece showdown, with Oriel the opposition on February 9.

Armagh’s inter-zone progress this season has centred on first-half points – with the locals’ lead at 17 shots last weekend by the break.

Elizabeth Smyth, Agnes Crozier, Sandra Whittle and Lesley Strain added another impressive performance to the tally by registering a 12-2 lead at five ends on mat one.

Foyle hit back with a three and one but Armagh wrapped up success by 17-6.

May Cassells, Michelle Wright, Marlene Hobson and Diane Agnew were involved in a tight tussle on mat two.

The tally was six apiece by seven ends before Armagh posted a two, four and single for a 13-6 triumph.

Daphne Marshall, Anne Crozier, Sadie White and Hilary Agnew enjoyed spells on top across mat three but struggled to shake off stubborn Foyle in the 5-5 draw.

Rachel Cassells, Elizabeth Lavery, Rosemarie Beattie and Catherine McMillen opened the second half on mat four in positive fashion.

It was 5-2 at three ends ahead of Foyle posting counts of three, two and four for a lead of 11-5.

Armagh regrouped to close the gap courtesy of a single and solid four before Foyle pushed on towards a 14-11 scoreline.

Pauline Beattie, Sophia Minish, Ann Patton and Sile Og Garvey enjoyed an early 6-1 gap on the way to success by 10-4.

Flo McNally, Margaret Dempster, Goretti Garvey and Jean Hawthorne had to endure a strong Foyle start before responding to the 9-4 deficit with a single, three and four. However, Foyle finished in front by 14-8.

Armagh men will be aiming to secure a final spot tomorrow (Saturday) with a meeting against North West in Richhill’s St Matthew’s.
