TABLE TENNIS CRAIGAVON’S Harry McGoldrick moved one step closer to a top-three placing in the Ulster rankings by finding impressive form in Fivemiletown on Saturday.
Coming home third in the under 14s’ Ulster event has provided McGoldrick with a points boost in his bid to jump from fourth in the standings to third.
The Fivemiletown competition left McGoldrick with a second bronze medal of the 2013 schedule.
McGoldrick, a member of the Glenburn club in Belfast, has recently added fitness work on top of his regular table tennis training programme.
Sean Collins, a former professional footballer, has devised a fitness schedule for McGoldrick.
“I still have a long way to go,” said the teenager, ranked ninth in Ulster under 17s. “I am currently 21st in Ireland and want to break into the top 10 before the end of the season.
“I would love to represent Ulster and play at Inter-Provincial Level.
“I have received a lot of support from friends and family and I want to acknowledge their backing.”
McGoldrick will switch his focus from club to school later this month with an appearance on behalf of Lismore Comprehensive before heading off to the Connaught Open.
