CRAIGAVON Sports Advisory Council and Rushmere Shopping Centre have teamed up to launch this year’s prize ceremony.

Sections open for nominations include Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Team of the Year and Service To Sport.

“This year we are delighted that the senior sports awards will be held in association with Rushmere Shopping Centre as main sponsor,” said Edith Jamison, Craigavon Sports Advisory Council chair. “I would encourage all those involved in sport across Craigavon to get behind the awards, which will culminate in a gala dinner and ceremony on Thursday, March 7.”

With the role of volunteers such a central theme at the London 2012 Olympic Games, organisers will stage a special category designed to highlight those offering time and hard work to clubs in the area.

The Craigavon Sports Personality Of The Year Awards is a fantastic event and we are delighted to support this important event in 2013,” said Rushmere Shopping Centre’s manager, Martin Walsh. “Last year was a phenomenally-successful year

for sport in Northern Ireland, with many of our sporting heroes making great strides

to achieve their aims and ambitions.

“It’s my hope that these awards will encourage others to continue to embrace sport with the passion and drive we need to succeed and that by seeing positive role models in sport being recognised for their hard work and dedication it will spur others on to realise their own sporting goals.

“Importantly, what we most need now are nominations so please do make sure you let us know who you want to win as soon as you can.”

Also included at the awards launch was the Mayor of Craigavon Councillor Carla Lockhart.

“Craigavon has a proud sporting tradition and the annual Sports Personality awards celebrate the achievements of our sporting men and women and the unsung coaches, volunteers and mentors who contribute so much to the health and well-being of the borough,” said the Mayor of Craigavon.

For nomination forms contract Craigavon Sports Advisory Council on (028) 38 311693 or anne.benson@craigavon.gov.uk. Alternatively, visit Craigavon Civic Centre or Lough Neagh Discovery Centre.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, January 25.
