GREEN BAIZE TROPHY (FINAL)
GREEN BAIZE C 4 FAIRGREEN 1

FAIRGREEN lost the opening frame as Stephen Hutchinson proved too strong for Kyle White in the final.

Both players approached the contest in attacking mood.

Hutchinson’s 22 visit allowed him to push clear by 20 points and a 26 break left the Green Baize man in control.

White attempted to cultivate snookers in a bid to reduce the 39-point gap but eventually conceded at 74-33.

Ryan Stock posted Fairgreen’s only win of the evening – with Darren Gillow on the losing side.

Early play featured sustained safety spells and just five points divided the rivals before Stock kicked off a sequence of clinical potting to move up by 24.

Gillow engineered one snooker on the colours and potted the green but got into trouble on the brown, with Stock eventually wrapping up a win by 79-47 across the pink and black.

Green Baize moved into a 2-1 lead overall thanks to Robert Porter’s success over highly-rated Jason Crozier.

Crozier recorded breaks of 17 and 25 but steady scoring from Porter – along with the handicap system – left the Fairgreen man ahead by just nine.

The dramatic conclusion featured success on yellow and green for Crozier before Porter potted brown and blue.

A foul on the pink by Crozier handed Porter an opening of which he took full advantage.

Steven Porter and Noel Meredith met in the decisive fourth frame – with the former in front thanks to consistent visits to the table and his handicap boost.

Porter held the upper hand by 34 points before Meredith produced a 23 break.

In the end, Porter proved resolute on the way to a 59-33 triumph and second trophy win for Green Baize inside three years.

The last tie ended with Gareth Gillow defeating Raj Asokan.
