“LURGAN’S Ryan Greene will be hoping to extend his unbeaten record when the 24th edition of Prizefighter comes to Belfast’s King’s Hall on Saturday.
“Ryan has four wins under his belt, including one knockout, following his debut in May 2010 and we wish him every success.
“The appearance of Prizefighter on the same bill as Paul McCloskey’s big match makes it a massive night of boxing in Belfast.
“McCloskey is looking to keep in World title contention following his brave victory over Breidis Prescott back in September but can expect a stern test against DeMarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley, ranked 15th in the world by the WBC.
“Corley won the World title in 2001 with a first-round stoppage of Felix Flores and made successful defences against Ener Julio and Randall Bailey before dropping a split decision to Zab Judah in July 2003.
“The 37-year-old took Floyd Mayweather Jr the distance in 2004 and faced Miguel Cotto the following year for his old title.
“Corley travelled to England to face Junior Witter for the WBC belt in 2006 and went the distance with Marcos Maidana for the WBA belt in 2010.
“The Prizefighter bill will feature Irish middleweights such as ‘King Kane’ Eamonn O’Kane, Anthony ‘Fitzer’ Fitzgerald, Mark ‘Kid Dynamite’ Heffron, Joe ‘Sugar’ Rea and Darren Cruise.
“This week’s boxing question comes from Andrew Potts and he wants to know who has or had the hardest punch in the sport.
“Well, there is no exact scale to accurately measure something like that during a fight but Earnie Shavers, the American heavyweight, was acknowledged as the hardest hitter.
“At one point in his career he clocked up 20 first-round knockouts.”
