Local Class Act Drama Academy students taking centre stage

The atmosphere was electric as students excitedly showcased newly developed and honed dramatic skills. The 4-8 year-old age group from the Academy’s Lower Primary classes took to the stage first with an extensive, high impact curriculum developing every student’s confidence and creative skills in a fun way.

From the start, they demonstrated to their parents how the aims of the Academy to develop confidence, self-esteem and communication skills had certainly worked this term. This was quickly followed by a demonstration of the speech training which clearly emphasised this vital element of the curriculum can be enjoyable and active whilst teaching some very relevant communication skills.

The highlight of their performance was the improvised play in which the students had been encouraged to develop their own lines through improvisation within a tightly structured creative plot.

Upper Primary students for the 8 – 11 year-olds then displayed their more advanced skills.

Their showcase was a demonstration of clear vocal training followed by the hilarious poems, I Tried To Do My Homework and Minecraft Mike.

This certainly set a precedent for the rest of the evening as the audience was enthralled by the fast pace and polished performance of their vocal skills.

The thriving Youth Theatre, which works with the secondary school age-group, acted out a wide range of texts and improvisations throughout their show. The mini scripted plays set up awkward relationships which called for a great deal of complex timing and emotional work from all the cast.

At the end of the show students received medal, trophies and certificates.

Lily Sittlington, the Academy tutor, said, “The students in the Coleraine class are marvellous to work with and it is an absolute pleasure to be able to offer each and every one of these amazing young people the chance to shine through our curriculum. The support we receive from our parents and the local community is vital to the development of our programme and the children who take part in our classes. We are now starting to look forward to the summer productions, where every student gets an important role to play and is a culmination of the extensive work completed throughout the year.”
