Win tickets to see one of the world's most unusual singing outfits

ONE of the world's most unusual singing outfits, The Swingle Singers, are set to delight a cappella style at Lisburn's Island Arts Centre on Thursday January 21 at 8pm and the Star has two pairs of tickets to give away for this very special show.

The Swingle Singers' name has become synonymous with incredible vocal virtuosity, blend and agility, flawless excellence and high-level entertainment - and it is a major coup for the Island Arts Centre to have signed them.

Complete with enormous sound, dazzling lights, eye-catching choreography, and the lush harmonies that made the group famous, the show has received wide acclaim as an entertainment extravaganza not to be missed.

The latest line-up of young and talented voices represents the group's transformation from pioneering classical/jazz crossover artists to contemporary vocal super-group. Each member of the eight-strong group is an accomplished vocalist, and between them, they sound like an orchestra with its own rhythm section.

Among the songs on the menu are the Swingle's spin on the works of well-loved contemporary singer-songwriters, from Joni Mitchell's epic Both Sides Now to Bjrk's haunting Unravel, from Brian Wilson to the Beatles, while paying tribute as always to the some of the fan-favourite Swingles repertoire of the last four decades. All the sounds you will hear are made by the human voice.

Since the release of their ground-breaking debut album in 1963, The Swingle Singers have performed on the world's most famous stages, have released over 50 recordings, and have won five Grammy Awards far beyond the dreams of their founder, American-born Ward Swingle.

For further information or to book tickets, priced 16/14, contact the Island Arts Centre Box Office on 9250 9254.
