Andrew McNeice started the petition after spending hours driving to either Newcastle or Newry for the tasty delights Nugelato had to offer.

And now his dream has come through, as after more than 1000 people signed the petition, the firm have opened their Portadown store in High Street.

In his petition, Andrew said: “If you are from the Craigavon, Portadown, Lurgan, or surrounding area and craving an ice cream, chocolate, sweets, or all of the above, you have to travel miles upon miles to have a taste of the heavenly Nugelato desserts they have on sale on their mouth-watering menu. I personally travel a large distance from Lurgan to Newry or Newcastle just to surcome to my cravings, let’s make that change.”

Having opened on July 9, customers have been so keen to sample the delights of Nugetalo that they have been queuing sometimes even in the rain to scoop up a Nuggy Pot.

Portadown Chamber of Commerce President, Adrian Farrell, who is a fan, said that with the opening of Nugetalo and the reopening of the McDonald’s retaurant, plus free car parking for customers, the town is beginning to rise from the ashes of COVID-19.

“I am getting positive vibes,” he said. “It is another step towards normality.”
