Positive vibes from traders as survey on new market ends
As Portadown market flourishes at its temporary home, hopes are high for a permanent new location near the town centre.
Currently trading in a car park in Thomas Street, their spokesperson Shirley Houghton said: “After a very troublesome few months Portadown farmers’ market has now settled very well into their temporary home.
“The market has seen a large increase in footfall and all the traders have had to carry additional stock to meet the demand. They are onsite from 4.30am each Friday and Saturday come rain or shine with customers arriving from 6am.
“Due to the size of the current location it is likely that all the other original traders and a host of new traders will join the market once it has been relocated to a permanent home.”
The online survey, by ABC Council, asked residents how they felt about the market moving to Magowan West carpark. The survey closed on Wednesday.
Shirley said they are all eagerly awaiting a new fresh-look market for Portadown. “A market with a wide variety of stalls stocking great produce at great prices and available all year round - our loyal customers deserve no less and the only way to ensure continuity will be in an indoor setting.
“Our facebook support group has over 2000 members with new people joining every week. This new market managed correctly could be a great enhancement to Portadown and a catalyst in re-establishing it as the hub of the North.”
