Council meeting pauses to clap for carers

The Thursday 8pm ‘Clap for Carers’ has become a tradition for many households across the UK and, as this month’s meeting of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council showed, our councillors are no exception.

The meeting, held virtually from councillors homes across the borough, began at 6.30pm.

With the meeting in full swing as the clock approached 8pm, members were mindful of the time and promptly brought the debate to halt as every councillor and officer started clapping in appreciation of all those on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19.

Speaking about the occasion the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Councillor Mealla Campbell said it was a good way to show “solidarity and support” for frontline workers.

“As Lord Mayor I, and the elected members of the borough, felt it was incredibly important to show our solidarity and support to all our NHS and frontline worker, at this challenging time,” said the Lord Mayor.

“The tremendous work being carried out on a daily basis in the fight against the coronavirus is thoroughly deserving of this recognition.”
