MP calls for a ‘fair pay settlement for health care workers

The MP has written to Health Minister Robin Swann MLA and the Health Secretary Matt Hancock MP, calling for a fair pay settlement for healthcare workers.

Mrs Lockhart believes that government proposals of a one percent rise ‘are simply not good enough’. She said: “This would set a precedent for a local settlement which would not be anywhere near good enough

“In the last year we have seen our nurses on the frontline battling the pandemic, as well as continuing other key services. We owe our healthcare workers a great debt of gratitude.

“I believe we could show how much we appreciate the professionalism, dedication and expertise of our nurses is to pay them at a level that reflects the invaluable role they perform.

“I have written to both ministers to press them for a pay settlement that puts right the issue of nurses pay. This has to be fair, and reflective of the value we as a society place on our healthcare workers.”
