Over 1,000 pipers and drummers will add even more colour to Lurgan Park when the Craigavon & District Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships makes a return on Saturday, June 20.
Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (Co. Down Section) in partnership with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, the event will see members of pipe bands and drum majors from all over Ireland compete in the competition, playing a wonderful spectrum of music and showcasing their melodic talents to visitors from near and far.
Events get under way from 11am with up to 45 pipe bands and 45 drum majors competing in the various contest grades including World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, Marlacoo and District Pipe Band, Battlehill Pipe Band and new crowned British Champions Bleary and District Pipe Band.
There will also be plenty of entertainment on offer with a wide range of delicious food at the cuisine court, a staged area with cultural music and dancing along with face painting, balloon modelling and a kid’s fairground zone to keep your little ones entertained.
After the competition is over the bands provide a colorful spectacle for spectators by parading onto the arena with the Lord Mayor, Councillor Darryn Causby taking the salute, followed by the prize giving ceremony.
Admission is £5 and 18’s and under are free. There will be a complimentary shuttle bus from Lurgan town centre to the event.
