SOCIAL networking sites have helped revolutionise how news is being reported.

And the Coleraine Times has fully embraced this revolution to keep its readers in the know with what is happening as it happens.

The paper’s online presence continues to grow and to date they are the only local paper with dedicated Facebook and Twitter pages.

Editor David Rankin says social networking sites have a vital role in helping the newspaper deliver what the readers want.

“As a newspaper it is important to embrace new technology which will help you reach as wide an audience as possible,” explained David.

“News is instantaneous now and social media has a massive role to play in the industry and how we reach our audience.

“On average we have just under 15,000 unique users coming to our website - colerainetimes.co.uk - each month and that coupled with our increasingly popular Facebook page means we have a very strong online presence which works hand in hand with our print edition.

“Our Twitter page adds to that. Through it we can interact with our readers and break news stories as they happen.

“Because of this we look forward to continuing as the borough’s number one paper both online and in print.”

The Coleraine Times presently has over 4,000 followers between the two social network sites, but this figure continues to grow week on week.
