Public urged to share earliest memories for posterity

A new season of events is well under way at South Lough Neagh Historical Society.

This winter’s programme contains an ‘I remember’ challenge whereby some of the very earliest events in people’s lives in the locality are recounted and are being recorded in narrative form.

So far some of the topics have been the old Bann Foot Ferry, the first post war election, early tractors in the area, and the temporary army pontoon bridge over the Bann at Bann Foot. Who remembers that event or any of these?

Any comments or reminisces are welcome from the wider Portadown readership, including other historical groups, and will add to the body of knowledge being researched.

Ring 028 38851113- or come along to the next meeting in the Community Hall, Maghery on Monday night, December 7 at 7.30pm.

All contributions area welcome and there is the opportunity to get a cup of tea and make new contacts and friends.

Please come along to either meeting and enjoy what should be some challenging talks and discussions.
