Few people will ever get lost in Portadown again, with the council having approved a £25,000 project to provide what they described as “historical signage” for the town centre.

The funding for the project is from the Department for Social Development (DSD) and the signage will be similar to that provided in Lurgan town centre during its revitalisation project.

The council’s development committee reported, “The scheme aims to instil a sense of pride in the town centre and enhance the visitor experience, and by providing information on historical buildings, people and places.”

It received approval at the full council meeting on Monday night, and it will mean a consultant and architect being appointed to oversee the project. This will be the duty of the director of development, Olga Murtagh.
