Are you a spelling champ?

Ballymoney and Moyle primary 7 pupils are being urged to enter a spelling comopetition in the New Year.

Eason stationers have started the search for Northern Ireland’s champion speller as they opened the 2014 Eason Spelling Bee competition for entries.

The competition is open to all P7 primary school children across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and this year it is offering an overall prize fund of books worth £17,000 for the winning schools. Schools are now invited to register to take part at www.easons.com/spellingbee and the closing date for entries is Friday 10th January, 2014.

Each school will put forward one student to take part in the County Finals competing to be the County Winner. The winners from each county will then take part in the Provincial Finals with the four provincial winners competing in the All-Ireland Final in RTE headquarters in June.

All schools that enter will receive an Eason Spelling Bee Dictionary and will be entered into a draw to win a £600 Gift Card. In addition, each child that takes part in the County stages will receive an Eason Spelling Bee dictionary.

Catherine Cahill, Brand Manager Eason, added: “The Spelling Bee is just one of our many initiatives to promote literacy in Northern Ireland, and we’re thrilled to see the entry levels rising year on year.
