Armagh born actor Colin Morgan, who starred in hit TV series The Fall, is set to star in a new movie about the 1916 Easter Rising.
The makers of the film are hoping investors will pump three million euro into the project.
Filming for The Rising is scheduled to begin in October with hopes that it will be released during the historic rebellion’s highly anticipated centenary year.
Colin Morgan, pictured, is best known for his roles in the BBC TV series Merlin and the crime drama The Fall.
Producer and co-writer Kevin McCann said he had received the support of relatives of thsoe who fought in 1916 as well as leading interests in Irish culture, including the film board in Belfast which produces Game of Thrones.
“Our film will dramatise the remarkable story of great Irish patriots, many of who were executed by the British Empire. People across the world have heard of 1916 but very few know exactly what was involved and why it happened,” he said.
The filmmaker said he would be travelling to the US to attend events and hold investor meetings between April 12 and May 12.
