Army bomb disposal deal with ‘suspicious object’ in Cookstown

A suspicious object that was reported on the Orritor Road in Cookstown last night has been declared “nothing untoward”.

Police were notified of the find yesterday evening and ATO were called to the scene.

An eyewitness said two army bomb disposal units were present and that the road was closed from the Westland junction during the operation - which is understood to have lasted from about 7.30pm to just before 11pm.

The object was understood to have been found about a quarter of a mile from the entrance to Forthglen.

The PSNI’s Inspector Gibson said: “Police received a report of a suspicious object on the Orritor Road, Cookstown yesterday evening, Monday, 13 July.

“ATO attended and declared the object was nothing untoward.”
