Baby friendly accolade for Altnagelvin

MATERNITY services at Altnagelvin have received UNICEF'S 'Baby Friendly' accreditation for the 10th successive year.

The initiative accredits maternity facilities and community services which operate to internationally recognised standards in tems of best practice of care for mothers and babies.

Head of maternity services, Anne Marie McGurk, said: “It is a remarkable and significant achievement that Altnagelvin Hospital now has achieved 10 years as a baby friendly facility”.

Lead midwife at Altnagelvin, Maureen Miller, said: “Being awarded the Baby Friendly Initiative for the 10th year in a row is a real success and reflects the hard work of every single member of the maternity team in the hospital and community”.

The baby friendly accreditation will be officially awarded later in the summer.

Congratulating the staff the sssistant director for health care, Kate McDaid, said: “This not only recognises the high level of care mothers receive in the western area but also credits the commitment and dedication of Western Trust maternity and community staff who richly deserve this accolade”.
