Ballycastle man told to pay up or go to jail

A BALLYCASTLE man has been warned to pay outstanding fines he owes to the court or face being locked up.

Stephen McMullan (37) of Carnduff Park appeared before North Antrim Magistrates Court for a stay of execution warrant.

The court was told the outstanding amount is 480.

A defence solicitor said his client had had some difficulties making regular payments recently as he had to spend a substantial sum repairing his motor vehicle.

District Judge Greg McCourt told McMullan his financial commitments to the court should come first.

He was given four weeks to demonstrate his commitment to fulfil the financial obligations.

“Make sure you have it paid well in advance of each week or else a warrant will be executed and you’ll be committed to prison,” warned Mr McCourt.

“You pay into the court each week or else you are going into custody, it is as simple as that.”
