Ballyclare tree planting application turned down

An application for an afforestation project on the outskirts of Ballyclare has been turned down by planners.

The application for the project on the Drumadarragh Road had been submitted as part of the Forest Service’s forest expansion scheme.

The scheme had been opened recently to support new woodland planting on privately owned land. The application, which was the only one in Newtownabbey, was turned down due to a possible negative impact on breeding waders, including lapwing, curlew, snipe and redshank.
