Bonfire tyres seized in Limavady

Tyres that were to be used in a Halloween bonfire in Limavady were seized by the town’s neighbourhood policing team.

Sergeant Ian Hunt from Limavady Neighbourhood Police said: “It is an offence to carry out activities including keeping, recycling or dismantling waste materials without a permit.

“We don’t want to spoil anyone’s night but burning tyres on a bonfire is very hazardous to your health and continues to cause problems after the bonfire with the sharp wire innards that have to be picked up and taken away.”

The tyres were seized by Limavady Neighbourhood Police along with Limavady Borough Council in the Coolessan and Glens area of the town.
