When police checked the car of a Portadown man they found that all four of the tyres were defective, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

William Paul Byars (26), whose address was given to the court as Union Street, Portadown, admitted four defective tyre charges and also not having a vehicle test certificate.

For each of the tyre offences he was fined £80 and for no test certificate he was fined £100 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

He was also given three penalty points.

The court heard that the offences came to light when he was stopped by a police mobile patrol at the Northway, Portadown.

Mr Brendan Hagan, representing the defendant, said Byars had bought the car the previous month with the intention of carrying out repairs and selling it.

He explained that it was a 2002 vehicle and should not have been on the road.

Byars had bought from a friend of a friend.
