Car had two defective tyres

When police investigated a road accident they discovered that the two front tyres of one of the vehicles involved were defective.

Inga Geneviciene (38), Westland Road, Portadown, was fined £120 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for driving without due care and attention on August 4 last year. She was also given three penalty points.

Fines of £40 were imposed on charges of having a defective front offside tyre and a defective front nearside tyre.

The court heard that a two car accident happened at 7.20am on the Brownstown Road slipway at the junction with Northway.

The defendant had rear ended another vehicle and there were two defective tyres on her vehicle.

A defending solicitor said she misread the situation and collided with a van in a low level impact. He added that she knew she should have been more vigilant in relation to the tyres and had purchased new tyres the same day. She had been driving for 14 years with no previous convictions.
